I don’t know if you care, But I have watched the youtube video linked.

It’s by a car expert, who is closely aligned with Detroit’s automakers. So, he’s not unbiased.

I tell you this because there are two MAJOR errors on what this dude makes, and I can prove it.

1) Energy in a Gallon of Gas is NOT the same thing as Horsepower available to the vehicle over time. On a good day (economical car, driving highway), it might reach 30%. So for a fair comparison, replace that Gallon with 3 gallons.

2) The battery density he chose is literally 2 or 3 generations ago (more than 10 years ago). So, then the Number of soda cans shrink by 3x or so.

Now, you may doubt still. Let me PROVE it to you..

Say a car gets 20 MPG average (economical car). A 20 gallon tank will take you 400 Miles. Image 20 of those gallon jugs.

Next I pull up to it a Tesla Model S, which has a 405 mile range. Do you REALLY think you can fit 20x the number of Soda cans this dude shows in the battery compartment of the Model S?

The dimensions of the battery pack that gets 405 mile range are about 3 inches high (less than the soda can), and about 9 foot in length and 6 foot in width.

BUSTED!

If you don’t like electric cars, don’t buy one.

But I am here to tell you, we are on the cusp of being able to charge them to 90% in about the same time it takes to fill up a 25 gallon tank....without affecting the battery lifetime. Already we are at the density required (and that continues to improve). Once the # of cycles is over 3000, it’s a no-brainer - we are already close to that now.....There are batteries being developed that can easily do 10,000 cycles...

What does this mean? let’s take a look at your Gas engine. How many “cycles” i.e. full tanks can you run through? Let’s say it’s 800, and you get 400 Miles to a tank. That’s 320,000 miles, after which your engine probably needs to be replaced. Electric motors will go 1M miles, no issues, if not 5 or 10M.

With 10,000 cycles, if the pack gets 400 mile range that’s 4M miles.

I don’t want to be forced to buy one! Particularly forced to buy EVs on the false premise of AGW! Right now, I see no technical advantage of an EV over an ICE but many disadvantages to EV ownership at its current level of development. I’ll buy one if and only if it fits my needs and pocketbook and the technology is more mature.
