BP.com each year in June publishes enormous spreadsheets of oil and gas and coal production AND consumption. That is your starting point. Download the spreadsheet and start studying.
The key item you will learn is that oil and gas are not infinite. Population growth seems to be. Russia’s surface area ensures they will run out of finite oil and gas LAST. Everyone else will run out, or run low, before them — and there is nothing anyone can do about that.
China and India’s appetite for oil and gas is voracious and much more important, their growth is explosive. They are buying increasing amounts from Russia.
And one last thing. Don’t worship at the altar of money. Money is something created from nothing by the Federal Reserve and other Central Banks. Russia has its own CB, which it did not have in the 1990s empowered to create money outside a 5 year Economics Ministry plan. That all is different now.
Can the US run out of money? No. We created 30 Trillion from nothingness and nobody is starving. Starvation is the only real measure of failure. Not reduced numbers on a screen representing this substance called money.
Russia has joules. In enormous quantities. Far, far more important than dollars or rubles or Euros.
