Ian is forecast to drive inland into SC/NC. Expect there will be news about inland damage. While coastal dwellers and vegetation are seasoned by storm experience and perpetual coastal breezes, inland vegetation (e.g. brittle trees) do not withstand gale force winds.

The inland destruction in Charlotte NC from Hurricane Hugo was primarily due to countless stately oak trees toppling onto homes.
