Fuel cells are problematic. Hydrogen creation for fuel cells create lots of CO2, a no-no for greenies. A lot of energy goes into creating the hydrogen, that energy produced by coal and other non-green sources. Also, lots of platinum, nickel and other metal ores must be mined for fuel cells, another big problem. The energy provided by fuel cells is less efficient than the batteries in EV's. I have experimented with fuel cells and find them lacking.
Of course. Bosch is a major player in the fuel cell business.
For EV vehicles, they are.
You're parsing words..not impressed.
Isn’t a battery more like a fuel tank?
Fuel cells don’t wear out.
Isn't the fuel tank a source of fuel for the engine?
“For EV vehicles, they are.”
No, not even then. Unless you are going to try to burn batteries to power your EV.
“You’re parsing words..not impressed.”
Well, words mean things, and meaning is important. I could care less whether you are impressed.
How much could you care?
Exactly 0.000375% less.
The catalyst do wear out. Expensive platinum or other exotic materials do degrade during conversion process.
Per studies: "In experiments, alloying platinum with a transition metal, such as nickel, have proven to be very effective catalysts. However, they don’t last as long as desired, as the fuel cell’s interior also corrodes alloy’s atomic surface structure. According to U.S. Department of Energy targets, fuel cell systems should last for 8,000 hours of operation, however so far, they have not reached 5,000 hours."
5,000 hours will get you two years of use when operated 8 hours a day. An EV battery will last 15 to 20 years and still have over half it's energy use available. Fuel cells do wear out, faster than conventional lithium-ion batteries.
Yes
Fuel tank || gasoline
Battery || electrical charge
What happens if you are traveling up the grapevine and traffic is halted for hours because of a snow storm?
Then there’s this https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/tesla-megapack-battery-fire-spurs-shelter-in-place-warning-in-california/ar-AA1231HF
How many people use their vehicle 8 hours a day?
Train derailment, fire, forces West Virginia evacuation

Also, I know an EV battery has only about 25% of normal range in cold weather.
