There is a massive stock market crash on the Russian stock exchange taking place following the announcement of various referendums including in the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, as reported on Tuesday, September 20.
Twitter rapidly began to flood with reports of the Russian stock market crash after various referendums were announced:
“The Russian stock market began to collapse after referendums were announced.”
“Russian stock market crashed due to rumours about general mobilisation.”
“Russian stock market went kaput.”
The Russian stock market crash comes after the public council of the Kherson Region has asked the head of the region, Volodymyr Saldo, to urgently hold an immediate referendum on Russia’s accession.
The Russian-controlled Kherson council believes that holding an immediate referendum in order to join the Russian Federation would secure the territory of the Kherson Region and “restore historical justice”.
The chairman of the Kherson regional public council, Volodymyr Ovcharenko, said that the referendum should be held as soon as possible.
The news comes after the public chambers of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR) proposed to hold an immediate referendum on joining the Russian Federation.
A referendum will be held from September 23 to 27, according to the chairman of the People’s Council of the republic, Denis Miroshnichenko, on Tuesday, September 20.

Things suck all over.
Let us know when Putin throws a party at the Kremlin while their stock market crashes 1217 points. Could we get a split screen of that? /s
Makes sense. These ill-considered sham votes will provoke and prolong more Western sanctions which will impact stock values in Russia. There is also the possibility that Russian annexation of these Ukrainian lands will be used as an excuse by Putin to escalate the war against Ukraine.
I saw a story on the news that the Baltic states and Finland have closed their borders to most Russian citizens. That might be part of this market problem too.
Aw, man. That was a great comment!
That’s funny,
The “crash” is nothing compared to what is happening on world markets. There is no room to escalate sanctions.
Big speeches tonight, Putin and Shoigu. The big issue they’re trying to decide is whether to hang that little pervert Zelensky with piano wire or 150-lb fishing leader wire. You might want to watch...
Until now Russia has only sent paid mercenaries and volunteers. Areas that become part of Russia, attacked, will enable Russia to change from special military operation to declaration of war. This in turn enables Russia to send Russian troops.
This is, I believe, because Ukraine made huge gains toward Donbas and wheeled civilian areas there, killing people.
France and Germany are not happy about this. Definitely escalation.
In most Baltic states display of a Russian flag or singing some Russian folk songs gets you arrested.
Shelled civilian areas
You might be right, but from what I am gathering, Putin/Russia is likely or possibly to bump the SMO to CTO (Counterterrorism Operation).
We shall soon see.
There are rumors on Russian boards about males 19-50 not being allowed to leave Russia, and martial law.
Putin needs war declaration to send real troops, per the duma. He can get that if the next civilian shelling, like the one that just killed Donetsk people in a grocery store and at a bus stop, is against Russian territory.
Also weapons from both Iran and North Korea are being used by Russians fighting in Ukraine. There was a rumor about them being from China, but turns out North Korea.
Revolution Time! No Bolshies This Time!
If they want to see a real crash, take a look at what Biden did over here.
Biden is the worst thing to happen to this country in our entire existence.
Russia already has Russian forces in Ukraine, you just don’t see or hear about them a lot cause most of the operations are being handled by PRC Wagner and like groups and Russian allied militia.
A full mobilization by Russia is not required and Putin knows this. Further, a full mobilization would hinder Russia’s economy which is doing just nicely right now when compared to the EU and US economy’s.
Bringing those regions into the Russian Federation, however, would be a mobilization within itself.
If it is a formal war declaration, Belarus is obligated to join Russia.
God help us if more countries join the party.
The SCO has been making military plans lately.
Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at war on the border. Azerbaijan invaded Armenia.
Poland wants land back from the Czechs.
A terrible fourth turning is upon us.
When the referendum “shows” thats these territories want to join Russia, that will be the formal excuse for Russia to declare war and begin a general mobilization.
