Exactly. In 1933 it was not at all apparent that the Holocaust was coming. People in Germany didn’t predict it yet either. Krystallnacht was in 1938. At that time people were extolling the economic genius of Hitler and Mussolini. Our economy was a disaster, a third of the nation was out of work. Anti-Semitism was pretty much de rigueur throughout Europe at the time Hitler came to power. But Krystallnacht was a severe escalation, and should have driven home that the Nazis were taking it to the next level.
