This is, for anyone who has any knowledge at all about how grids work, a mic drop moment.

EVERY megawatt of power generated by wind or solar has to be backed up by 1.14 megawatts of fossil fuel generation.

This is because (obviously) neither wind nor solar are steady producers, and of course solar goes 100% dark at night. Because backup has to be ready to spool up in minutes to take over the load, only gas and hydro plants can handle the task. (California of course has been tearing up hydro capacity to "save the snail darters". In addition to shutting down the very cleanest power sources we have, i.e. nuclear plants.)

The book is Shorting the Grid, by Merideth Angwin. Will introduce you to the looming catastrophe of grids controlled by politicians and not engineers.

All to make the green oligarchs richer.

So, do it already. Quit talking about it. I would love to see California make itself one of the poorest states in the union.

Hey Gavin, a great, really quick start would be cutting the 500kV lines from Palo Verde nuclear in Arizona! Go for it! You’ll be loved by all! Yay green!

It’s called STAYING ON OFFENSE - something Republicans can learn from.

An old joke: “What did the Liberals use before candles? - Electricity”.

Well, it’s time for some enterprising greenie to make a ton of money selling those backup generators that are run by solar and wind. Oh, wait.
