The Sacramento area is gearing up for an unusual amount of rainfall for this time of year.
Downtown Sacramento through the Sacramento Valley could see up to two inches of rain between Saturday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms will likely be paired with rain showers, creating longer commute times and slick roads.
“If you compare it to rain in February or January or the height of winter,” said meteorologist Cory Mueller with the National Weather Service “it would be pretty standard.”
“But for September, it’s quite unusual to see that amount of rain.”
The culprit: the Alaska Storm.
One of the worst storms to hit Alaska in half a century will trickle to western parts of the U.S throughout the weekend, bringing damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Neighboring cities including San Francisco, Stockton, Modesto and South Lake Tahoe will see one to two inches of rain by Wednesday, the National Weather Service wrote on Twitter.

I live in Reno across the Sierras from Sacramento. We are getting heavy smoke from the fires in between. Hopefully this rain puts out the fire.
Likely to be the case - the smoke is as far north as Spokane - my grandson’s track meets have been canceled
Translation:
This wet weather will help reduce the fire hazard During peak fire season here soon so the media can’t blame climate change on the fires
Also it will help steer a potential strong hurricane out to sea instead of hitting the USA preventing the media from screaming climate change
Awesome
Careful it may change the spin of the earth
But-but-but. . . muh drought!
Hopefully this storm will do two things:
1. Break the fire warnings up and down the state for this season.
2. Enable us to get new drainage systems dug and installed to protect our home in what could be a very rainy season.
Sacramento area is in a flood plain. Hope folks in low-lying areas are stocking up on sandbags. As for me, I just finished installing a new shed roof this week. Gotta clear some rain gutters of pine needles. Feel bad for people that are going to get flooded.
AccuWeather meteorologists warn the massive storm will hit areas of western Alaska with the force of a hurricane this weekend.
No rain, horrid climate change.
Deluge of rain, horrid climate change.
We are doomed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rain or shine, it’s always hysteria in California and the WORLD IS GOING TO END because CLIMATE CHANGE (say it with an echo chamber).
Last week it was THE HOTTEST IT’S EVER BEEN so then it cooled down and now it’s THE WETTEST IT’S EVER BEEN and AAAAAAAAAH the world’s gonna end.
Wow. One inch of rain barely gets the ground wet here.
Now, a few years ago we got nearly 15 inches in 36 hours...that caused some big problems.
Yay! Let it pour. Sick of the hot, dry weather we’ve been getting for what seems like forever. Two inches won’t hurt us even if it comes in one day. Bring it.
2” of rain? I had that in 2 hours, one storm.
So true. Two inches over several days is a nothing burger.
They will blame the lack of fires on climate change and will suddenly discover that fires are a good thing because they renew the forests.
Looks like the golf game in Napa is going to be wiped out this Sunday.
We always are.
