Former President Donald Trump returned to the government an envelope full of documents “wrapped in tape” and failed to mention that he supposedly declassified the records kept at his Florida residence, the FBI said in court papers revealed on Tuesday.
The unredacted details were included in the FBI search warrant affidavit used to justify the unprecedented Aug. 8 raid on an ex-president’s home.
After the raid, Trump claimed he declassified any records retrieved by the authorities from his Mar-a-Lago resort.
The newly disclosed search warrant affidavit details come as the Justice Department pushes back on Trump’s claim to have a standing order to declassify information en route to Palm Beach when he left office last year.
Although the president has the ultimate authority to declassify information, Trump has not produced a specific order covering documents stored at Mar-a-Lago — nor has the government said what actually is in the documents.
Trump claimed after the raid that “it was all declassified,” though experts and the Justice Department say that wouldn’t necessarily shield the former president from charges for mishandling national defense information.
The affidavit says that on June 3, Trump’s team handed over records that seemed to be treated “as if they were still classified.”
The fact that the documents were “in a Redweld envelope wrapped in tape appears to be consistent with an effort to handle the documents as if they were still classified,” the 38-page document says.
“On June 3, 2022, three FBI agents and DOJ COUNSEL arrived at the PREMISES to accept receipt of the materials. In addition to [an unnamed Trump attorney], another individual, hereinafter ‘INDIVIDUAL 2,’ was also present as the custodian of records for [Trump’s] post-presidential office,” the document says.

Wow. Just step back and look at this........
The President now reports to the FBI?
Seriously?
The FBI and not the President is the authority on what the President declassified?
Am I crazy or does this seem to be completely reversed as to who has authority over this matter?
The prior decision by a Federal Judge loved by the left in the Judicial Watch versus Clinton/Archives makes this entire case moot from start to finish. The FBI would have to prove that Donald Trump did not wave his hand or simply burp and say that all documents he took were declassified. How could you prove such a thing and why is this case different than the prior one involving Bill Clinton and tapes he retained?
I guess that is a rhetorical question since this involves Trump.
Furthermore, why is the “national security division” not recused from investigating Donald Trump? How many attempts do they get when the prior ones fell flat?
as we get closer to the midterm election i wonder if the russai documents will get dropped publicy where is julian asage wikileaks, when you need them?
The FBI lies, so why should we believe the affidavit?
If there is some dispute as to whether the documents were still classified , then the prudent thing to do is to treat them as such. They should be stored in an inner wrapper marked appropriately. That is then stored in another wrapper with tape on the outside to show that the package has not been opened until it gets to its destination. The tape was probably simple reinforced shipping tape.
“ If there is some dispute as to whether the documents were still classified , then the prudent thing to do is to treat them as such”
If they did that then they couldn’t selectively leak things that may sound bad out of context that the media
Which is it boys? De-classified yet handled as if classified...... where the hell is that one in Law?
Able to understand thanks to the genius of Donovan
That was his major failing—LOL!
And Bath House Barry still has over 3,000,000 that he refuses to turn over.
~~~~~~~~~
ISN’T THERE A REG THAT SAYS HE HAS TO RELEASE THEM AFTER 6 YEARS??
Nor has the government said what actually is in the documents.
No national defense information?.
Must be something they don’t the public to know about and it’s not national defense related.
The smell of fish lingers
Sounds like Trump’s team was cooperating, based on everything they have given to these fools.
Why would Trump’s people tell the FBI anything more about the bundle of paper? Why offer info when not asked, or with the FBI even when asked? Wrong answer sends you to jail, regardless of how minute.
Wrapping something in tape is illegal.
He should just release them to the public.
Yep, the idea that a President could “mishandle classified documents” is as stupid as the idea that he could “obstruct justice” when no crime was committed.
Laws don't apply to the Demonrats and the left./sarc
“… mishandling national defense information...”
Such as the DIA,CIA, NSA and FBI colluding with their Russian, Chinese, and Iranian counterparts?
Such as US tech and defense companies supplying China’s defense companies with information?
