I guess you never read Solzhenitsyn’s “Gulag Archipelago,” which was NOT a novel as some communist deniers claimed. It has a literary flair to it, but is based on his own experiences in a gulag. Also, you can read Oleg Khlevniuk’s “History of the Gulag: From Collectivization to the Great Terror.” There are others. You can probably find a few on Amazon.

Nice try, Sparky. Do you even know what GULAG means? It is merely an acronym for “Main directorate of correctional camps.” It refers to the administrative body of the penal system; it does not mean “prison” or “camp.” While the acronym is no longer used, the penal apparatus still exists, including prisons and penal colonies; and, yes, there is still forced labor in the Russian penal system.

We are talking about “gulag CULTURE,” which was YOUR term. That CULTURE remains (prisons, penal colonies, forced labor), regardless of what name you wish to apply to it.
