A friend who is a nurse had multiple instances of having to tell docs what they were doing was wrong. If they have the expertise, they should most definitely intervene if they know something could be harmful. And if they’re too cowardly to do that, they need to find another profession.

YES!

A friend who is a doctor will tell you of the nurse that saved a patient’s life and his ass.

As an intern on every busy night attempting to catch a few winks between incoming patients...

A nurse knocks on his door and tells him accident victim ...

He gets up and tells the nurse to start a glucose solution...as he looks at the chart...

The nurse says “she is diabetic”... “SHE IS DIABETIC!!!”.
As he was waking up.

He said this could have caused great harm or even killed the patient.

At a top-of-the-line major Chicago hospital.NWM

Also one of many reasons to avoid emergency rooms if possible.

This isn’t an RN. This is a CRNA so an advanced practice RN. She was practicing under very strange rules to most. It was not a medically directed case. It was a “medically supervised” case which is required in NC. The CRNA was essentially acting independently.

Important to know the actual facts. It has nothing to do with bedside RN. It has everything to do with APP increasing their scope. It is the correct ruling.

Bill Clinton gave us independent CRNA practice. They should enjoy the liability as well

That is a ridiculous statement. My wife is an acute care nurse and was nearly fired for questioning her doctor. She was right and he knew it. She has over 30 years of experience. After, he began to harass her. She had to file a harassment and hostile work environment complaint to keep her job. The clinic and hospital backed the doctor but corporate split the baby and and told my wife to follow doctors orders, but the doctor had no right to harass her. Since that occurred they have cut her hours dramatically. Other nurses took note and fell in line.
