Advance practice nurses have a place with careful supervision. But if you want to say you have the knowledge and experience to practice independently then you have the judgement and experience to be responsible for what you do…. You don’t get to have the cake and eat it too.

At no point ever did I say, imply, or insinuate that I wanted to have responsibility without liability.

Your post, however, implied that a patient was harmed because a CRNA was involved in the case, and that had the care been provided by an anesthesiologist, the outcome would have been different. You conveniently left out the 800 lb gorilla in the room which was that this induction was medically directed by an MD.

Both of these providers were inappropriate in the care of this child & exercised very poor judgement. Both should be held liable.

The opinion affects every RN under the direct supervision of a MD. The CRNA was the catalyst to overturn a previous opinion that protected all RNs (Under direct supervision), that is gone now.

The incident of the CRNA is being retried without the protections of Byrd v. Marion General Hospital, 202 N.C. 337 (1932).

This ruling will cause all kinds of delays pertaining to patient care, especially in critical care/med surg. Going to be a cluster* because one horror story that affects the whole industry in NC. Laws or rulings of horror stories way out of the norm make society weaker, not protected. Heck, NSAIDS would of never made it to market with today standards.
