It was crna not an rn. One of those practitioners with far less education than a physician acting as a practitioner not a nurse. They should be responsible for their actions. Welcome to the party.
The issue isn’t that the CRNA operates independently and should be held accountable, the problem is that the physician would now seem to not be the ultimate authority; hence, granting more authority to the CRNA and taking authority away from the physician.
Lol you never fail to take a swipe at advanced practice nurses.
The CRNA in this story was part of an anesthesia care team and if you actually both to read the article you’ll see that an anesthesiologist, you know -one of those highly educated superior beings - was present.
Your bias does not do much for your credibility
A CNA is just that an assistant. They do not have training at the level of an RN
While necessary for a smooth hospital experience they are not qualified to question anything
to Mom MD
Good job on actually reading the article cited and showing that people (can) make bone-headed comments by swallowing the bait of a poorly constructed headline.
Well, maybe the headline was constructed deliberately to put a certain slant on the situation ...........
CRNA’s are supervised by an MD during admin of anesthesia.the MD must be in the room with the CRNA
It was crna not an rn.

There are a lot of states that allow nurse practitioners have full practice rights as far as treating and prescribing medications independently.
If North Carolina was one of those states, I would agree with the ruling.
However, North Carolina is not one of those states. They need a physician oversight to prescribe, diagnose, and treat patients.
I believe the court made a bad ruling.
