The Dems have nothing to run on for the midterm election except Trump hatred. The thing they are blind to is the more they try and persecute Trump, the more those who support him get energized and they *will* vote. Not to mention Biden so very much deserves a failing midterm grade for his handling of illegal immigrants, crime, inflation, and foreign policy disasters.
That's all they got. If we ran somebody like DeSantis, they would have to come up with new attacks for DeSantis and they would have to develop a new strategy.
With Trump, they have a proven formula. And it works.
