Igor Girkin is a retired FSB Colonel. From 1999 to 2014 he was involved in Russian covert operations from Chechnya to Ukraine. He was a a leader in Russian operations in annexing Crimea and setting up proxies in Donbas.

He is the insider Scott Ritter and Larry Johnson pretend they are. For a Russian nationalist (Russian irredentism or Soviet imperialism) with his background to say the Russian invasion is failing is significant.
