This is one of a number of cracks that are appearing in Russian domestic support for Putin and his Ukraine war. The dissenting Russian bloggers — which seem to shelter under the security services — urge that general conscription be declared. That is a sign of desperation and unreality.

Mass conscription would generate politically catastrophic mass resistance and an anti-war movement. It would also lead to further military chaos. Russia simply lacks the trainers, equipment, and weapons to make use of a mass of new conscripts as anything other than what the Russians cruelly refer to as "cannon meat."

Russia's invasion of the Ukraine is now in the "middle game" in which there are no good military options for Russia. Worse, the battle of attrition and logistics is turning against Russia, with Ukraine's military now undertaking limited, successful offensives as Western arms continue to pour into the country. Most of Russia's units in the south are vulnerable to having their supply lines cut and being forced to surrender.

Although other scenarios are plausible, the most likely one is that a major surrender of Russian forces begins the end game for Russia and Putin. Ominously, Russia's revolutions of 1905 and 1917 took place in cold weather (February and October) and were triggered by military defeat.

Putin thought his “special operation” would last less than a week.
We are now into a 6 months long war. The number one nuclear power in the world with all its military resources doing this bad is actually a bit crazy. Think about it. The amount of tanks and soldiers they lost is staggering.
Russias people are fed up with their own deep-state warmongering politicians.

Russia is depleting its military resources by the minute and to such a point I’m starting to wonder if Putin might be a Nato-mole destroying Russias army from within, bit by bit. I’m being a tad sarcastic.

What’s interesting about the article is that it shows Russia is starting to feel quite some unease in its society. They will soon feel the Vietnam syndrome we in America felt... which made us end the war there, letting the communists win.

The only thing Russia can hope for now, is a pyrrhic victory.
What a waste. What a ridiculous unnecessary war.
