Belarus has started military exercises by the city of Brest near the Polish border, its capital Minsk and the northeast region of Vitebsk, the defence ministry said on Thursday.
Belarus, a close ally of Russia, said the exercises, located just 20 miles from Ukraine's border and six miles from Poland, will practice 'liberating territory temporarily seized by the enemy' and regaining control over border regions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin used similar rhetoric to justify his invasion of Ukraine earlier this year and had staged wargames near the border before sending his troops into battle.

Oh good so now Russia wants to attack Poland
61 days ahead if our mid-terms. Think that has anything to do with it?
“...practice ‘liberating territory temporarily seized by the enemy’”
So now they’re openly admitting Poland is their “enemy”. Keep telling us how the war in Ukraine was “forced” on Russia, VladBots.
Inquiring minds want to know...
;>)
Looks a lot like 1938. Keep it up, war lovers.
Oh good so now Russia wants to attack Poland.
********
Doubtful:
1. The old USSR was strong enough to do this, but today’s Russia has its hands full with the Ukraine.
2. When the Russia-is-losing reports were at their height, there were reports on FR about Poland sending regular troops to the Ukraine.
Right, its better to just let dictators invade until they are satiated, like in 1938.
Poland should amass their tractors on the Belarus border.
Exactly...
Funny, I was following this subject on FR and did not see any “reports” about Poland sending regular troops to Ukraine. Would you mind sharing them, please?
IMO all the Belarusians could do is dump artillery on POL positions provoking cross-border hostilities to distract from RUS offensive failure.
The POLs are smart and capable. They are old-school direct command leadership structure, more akin to Prussians than anything else imo. And they promote those leaders so it is the prevailing élan of their Army.
They will know to dig in. If they choose to go on offensive they could take Minsk in days and Moscow in 2 weeks. But they will follow NATO leadership, use restraint and suffer unnecessary casualties.
