Thinking electric cars are “zero emission” vehicles is at the same level as thinking “I never kill animals; I get all my meat from the supermarket”.
Yeah evs have plenty of emissions and severe environmental impacts…it is just not at point of use…it is like walking your dog and letting it crap in someone else’s yard…
Everyone I knew in CA bought them for one reason. You can drive alone in the carpool lane. The rest is just made up excuses.
Electric cars are a giant elitist SCAM!!!!
STOP THEM!!!!
There’s some alleged Freeper here that claims EV’s are as pure as the driven snow, that Tesla’s new (when are they coming?) batteries won’t contain cobalt or lithium. That solves the Chinese child slave labor problem (allegedly) and the toxicity problem as well.
I agree EV’s are very good performers (except for distance limitations) and I like the looks of most of the Tesla line, but I long for the days of my 600 hp Camaro. Now that was a car!
” but I long for the days of my 600 hp Camaro. Now that was a car!”
The ZL1 is 650. My 5-year warranted Mustang is 750.
“There’s some alleged Freeper here that claims EV’s are as pure as the driven snow, that Tesla’s new (when are they coming?) batteries won’t contain cobalt or lithium”
I have never seen that Freeper.
The article includes the following characteristics:
Toxic Pollution
Local Pollution
Greenhouse Gases
Consequences
Inadequate supply issues
” batteries won’t contain cobalt or lithium.”
Half of the Teslas coming off the assembly lines have cobalt-free batteries.
Presently only 6% of cobalt production goes into EV batteries.
Meanwhile, China, India etc etc etc are building hundreds, if not thousands of coal-fired plants, which negate anything and everything the rest of the stupid world does for “zero emissions”.
Great analogy.
I have electric lawnmower, weed whacker and blower, plus around 150’ or so of 2 extension cords hooked together. No batteries.
I’m plugged directly in to power at its source and the only energy losses are from the extension cords.
This way I’m eliminating the battery middleman altogether, as well as its related charging support minions, too, along with the need to pay them all with however much energy they demand, not to mention accounting for whatever the battery loses while sitting around doing nothing! Lazy bum.
And, by being plugged in directly to power, I’m running at 100% until I’m finished working, too. As it should be.
But, a battery powered anything begins to fade after a certain point when its charge gets too low. And then I stop working when IT stops working. What’s up with that?!
If only EVs could eliminate the battery and be plug and drive just like my mower is plug and play with garden tools!
However, 150’ is my max range for mowing, edging and blowing. So, anything beyond 150’ is why I have gasoline powered vehicles!
For those missions, that technology is just mo better in every way, including with “carbon emissions” which still eludes me as a scary, world ending issue anyway.
EVs seem like cool toys for rich girls and boys and y’all do what you gotta do to make yourselves feel good about things, but leave me alone.
Don’t underestimate their usefulness as a status symbol too, which is always important to urban elitists.
“Silicon Valley” did a recurring bit on that part of their appeal, with the Hindu dev’s obsession with lording his high-end Tesla over everyone else, until one of the other devs got a newer model, and then he went berserk.
They’re RPVs - Remotely Polluting Vehicles.
“I have electric lawnmower, weed whacker and blower, plus around 150’ or so of 2 extension cords hooked together. No batteries.”
I have electric - ALL BATTERY:
Lawnmower
Chainsaw
Weed whacker
Blower
Hedge Trimmer
Hand Trimmer
Tire inflator
Two drills
Portable lantern
“And, by being plugged in directly to power, I’m running at 100% until I’m finished working, too. As it should be.”
If you are running a 150-foot cord you are not at 50%!
The power from the outlet also doesn’t change over time or with use.
Battery power is not like that.
I’m happy for you. To each their own!
“However, 150’ is my max range for mowing, edging and blowing. “
I remember those old days, just not with the mower.
What a hassle! I can do it in half the time with batteries. Never mind having to repair the cuts in the cords.
I still have my corded edge trimmer but it hasn’t been used since I bought the battery one eight years ago.
