Diehl doesn’t stand a chance of winning.

Maybe not, but every rebuilding has to start somewhere. Having real Republicans nominated instead of guys like Baker is an important step, so that those Republicans in places like Massachusetts aren't completely demoralized.

Howard Dean was a bad presidential candidate, but a competent Dem Party boss. His approach was to run hard in all 50 states, even in places where there was no chance. It helped energize the Dems.

Compared to most MA voters Diehl is considered far right. He orig was from Bethlehem PA and was a Dem till 2008. In that year’s primaries he voted for a fellow Pennsylvanian.

Guy from Scranton. No joke! But he did push the gas tax repeal later.
Howie Carr will tell you he helped Trump get elected but he supported Doughty this year saying Diehl can’t beat Maura Healey.

Howie’s registered to vote in FL—lives there half the year.
Doughty $-—2 million of his own money.
Diehl had $17k in his campaign kitty but may get more now that he’s the nominee.
