A California lawsuit brought by the girl’s parents accuses law enforcement of traveling hundreds of miles to confiscate a beloved pet.
When a young California girl purchased a baby goat last spring, the intention was to eventually sell it at a county fair livestock auction. But after feeding and caring for the animal for months, she bonded with the goat, named Cedar, and wanted to keep it.
Jessica Long sued the Shasta county sheriff’s department seeking damages and accusing the agency of violating her daughter’s constitutional rights and wasting police resources by getting involved in a dispute between her family and a local fair association.
In July, “two sheriff’s deputies left their jurisdiction in Shasta county, drove over 500 miles at taxpayer expense, and crossed approximately six separate county lines, all to confiscate a young girl’s beloved pet goat”, the lawsuit states. “As a result, the young girl who raised Cedar lost him, and Cedar lost his life.”
Instead, law enforcement officers allegedly travelled hundreds of miles to confiscate the pet, who was eventually slaughtered.
The story is laid out in a lawsuit, first reported by the Sacramento Bee, filed by the child’s parent this week, in a case that has sparked outrage and criticism that the police and the county fair went too far to reclaim the goat and send a child’s beloved pet to slaughter.

When you’re young you just don’t get it.
I wouldn't want to dine on any of those goats.
I am just the opposite, lamb I might eat to prevent starvation. Venison, if properly cared for, is good. Goat needs to be roasted slowly on a bed of coals, basted and turned often. In the late 60s and early 70s in Mexico, one could go to a Cabrito restaurant and buy a half of a kid, carefully roasted for 30 peso. The peso was about 12 to the dollar at the time. Cabrito, tortillas, chilies and a good beer; what a feast.

Really
One little goat and your bream just had to go take it

It might be justified by rules but the optics sure suck
The optics only suck for urban snowflakes and animal rights activists. Rural folk are rolling their eyes at the stupid.
This family will never be allowed to participate in Jr shows again. The kid learned the crying and whining works, such a great skill for when she’s a woke college student with no money because they blew up the opportunity to earn it.
My 4 all made enough in their 8 years of participation to pay for two years of college.
Goat meat can be preapred to be very tasty!”
I’m sure you would enjoy scarfing this little girl’s pet.
“That’s a sad lie and you knew it when you posted it.”
In the context of this story why would you post about tasty goat meat? Not a lie, just pointing out your indifference.
It's a sad lie that you are sure I would enjoy eating some child's pet. It's absurd on the face of it and a lie in fact. You're wrong. You know it. So you spin to assuage your conscience rather than admit your error.
If you or I went to the police for an issue like this, they would tell us it is a civil matter (breach of contract) and to get a lawyer.
That’s an excellent point.
Bet they wouldn’t have touched the goat if it belonged to a known pervert
Sorry about your goat.
I was watching vids on Reddit last night and came across one of a goat walking upright. I went to YT to see if it was common or if it was just that poor goat that had something wrong with its front legs. Anyway when I went to YouTube to search, a goat with a strange face popped up but I didn’t look at that vid. Now I can’t find that video, but I did find this one. Yikes!

When you are more learned, you will understand the difference between literal and sarcastic.
