SHENZHEN, China, Sept 1 (Reuters) - The southwestern Chinese metropolis of Chengdu announced a lockdown of its 21.2 million residents as it launched four days of citywide COVID-19 testing, as some of the country's most populous and economically important cities battle outbreaks.

Residents of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, were ordered to stay home from 6 p.m. on Thursday, with households allowed to send one person per day to shop for necessities, the city government said in a statement.

Chengdu, which reported 157 domestically transmitted infections on Wednesday, is the largest Chinese city to be locked down since Shanghai in April and May. It remained unclear whether the lockdown would be lifted after the mass testing ends on Sunday.

Testing 21 million people. In a week. I am dubious about this claim.

Keep locking down-—each lockdown sends more and more business our way (At least with raw materials/chemical companies).

They are battling something, yes.

But it is NOT the virus.

I beginning to the lockdowns are less about Covid and more about internal problems. There are a lot of stress lines that lie under the CCP rule like seismic faults. Enough pressure, and that could blow wide open.

Could this be to interrupt supply chains to the West? It seems like weaponization of the economy; the virus is so mild now it just makes you sneeze a bit.

Maybe an excuse to lock us down for the mid terms.

Because of these lockdowns, China is not using as much LNG as they would otherwise use - so they sell the rest to Europe, at SPOT PRICES (which are about 5 to 10 times regular prices these days).

A proven effective technique used cyclicly by totalitarian governments:
Take away liberties with draconian restrictions; restore those liberties by lifting the restrictions; then reimpose and increase the draconian restrictions to remind citizens where their liberties really come from: that is, their rights come from, and are subject to the whims of the totalitarian government.

This technique works exceptionally well to demoralize the populace, to dissuade them from uniting against the tyrants, and to accept the reality of their miserable existence.

This has been attempted here, with limited (i.e., temporary) effect ... but it will be tried again (and again and again, you know, in a cycle) if America's Democrat/Communist Party isn't neutered in November.

I believe that these lockdowns are the CCP projecting power over any internal dissent. CCP Power Structure could be crumbling and by crushing huge cities this may be their way to hold onto power.

Are Democrats trying something similar here just not YET to the Draconian levels of CCP?

Weren’t the unfortunate people in Red China all forced to be “vaccinated”?

If so, then why lockdown anything?

China is going to need a distraction from the lockdowns, crashing real estate market, and drought. That distraction is called, “Taiwan.”
