China-made counterfeit parts found in US military aircraft: Senate
By Greg Waldron 21 May 2012
The US Senate Armed Services Committee has issued a report stating that China is a major source of counterfeit electronic components found on aircraft such as the L-3 Communications/Alenia C-27J, Lockheed Martin C-130J and Boeing P-8A.
The committee’s investigation discovered 1,800 cases of counterfeit parts, with the total number of individual parts involved exceeding 1 million, the Senate Armed Services committee said in a statement.
“Our report outlines how this flood of counterfeit parts, overwhelmingly from China, threatens national security, the safety of our troops and American jobs,” says committee chairman senator Carl Levin.
“It underscores China’s failure to police the blatant market in counterfeit parts - a failure China should rectify.”
The 112 page report details how counterfeit parts made their way into several high profile programmes.

An Oregon defense contractor is under indictment for allegedly defrauding the military of at least $10.5 million by supplying counterfeit and defective truck and helicopter parts
Kustom Products, Inc., a Coos Bay, Ore., company as well as its owner Harold Ray Bettencourt and other family members and employees are charged in an indictment filed last week in U.S. District Court in Portland.
According to the indictment, Bettencourt, obtained substandard parts from unapproved sources then gave false information to the Department of Defense and federal investigators. He also directed others to provide fictitious invoices and purchase orders, the government alleges.
All of the alleged criminal offenses took place before Dec. 1, 2010, prosecutors said.
Among the charges related to the alleged fraud are conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit good and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Many of the bids made by the company were through web-based programs, according to the indictment.
The latest charges raises the value of contracts covered from $7.5 million listed in a 2011 indictment. Arraignment has been set for April 30.
I was a Huey crewchief in the 80’s after that Chinook accident. Saw the footage in a safety film. The Chinook had skydivers on board, one of the rotors stopped in flight, one or two were able to jump out before the Chinook nosed down and slammed into the ground. We were told that the transmissions were overhauled, and cleaned with walnut shells. Apparently the shells were used like sand blasting to clean transmissions. After that was found out all Hueys, Cobras, and Chinooks had to have extensive maintenance to ensure oil ports were cleared and the transmissions were flushed with a cleaner and fresh oil three or four times, just to ensure that whatever residue from the walnut shells was completely removed. I dont know exactly what residue from the walnut shells (oil or dust) but the internal transmission oil ports were clogging.
ROFLMAOPIMP !!!
Civilians: whappiti whappiti whappiti whap whap whap
Amazing something that small (blasting dust) can lock up the transmission that is being fed that much power.
Fuel 0-rings are blue color
yep still the case, very efficient rotors, no tail rotor waste/drag.
LOL !!!
Are they black and no numbers ?
