“ Why would liberals donate to the campaign of Ron DeSantis”

Because they know DeSantis is beatable. He is virtually unknown outside of a niche group of supporters and would get clobbered in a general election. People aren’t driving across state lines or queuing up in miles long lines to hear him speak. A DeSantis nomination is a guaranteed Democrat victory.

Then why are the Pravda media trying to portray DeSantis as a neo-nutzy mafia don?

They fear him. If they thought he was a weak candidate, they’d build him up like they did with McLame and Myth Romney.

Donations to Ron DeSantis at this time are for his gubernatorial re-election, where he's going to beat Charlie Crist in a landslide.

He's currently not running for any other office.

If they're trying to weaken the guy by giving money to him, donating to a campaign he's destined to handedly win probably isn't the best strategy.

They’ve said the same thing about many candidates going back to FDR and further.
