The Ukrainians are defending their own country against foreign invasion? Odessa (and surrounding areas of the black sea) was formally established in 1794 by Catherine the Great. Its residents speak mostly Russian. For some unknown reason, Lenin gave it to Ukraine Bolsheviks in the 1920s
Don't be surprised when Russia takes it back.
