What pushback are you thinking? The problem is that unlike a generation ago, there is no legitimate intellectual phalanx in the current conservative movement. Every major right-leaning intellectual has either died (Buckley, Krauthammer, Safire, Limbaugh) or moved to the left (Kristol, Will, Brooks). Without an intellectual wing, there is no way the right can push back. Conservatives today are deeply suspicious of people with intellectual credentials, and this does not help.
Krauthammer much like Shapiro left a lot on the table
