… cultural appropriation.
It’s about time somebody does something about the unintelligible people you have to talk to if you have any kind of problem regarding customer service or billing these days. I immediately tell the call center worker (politely) that I don’t understand what the hell they are saying and would they please let me talk to someone without a foreign accent who speaks English fluently. There are also some who speak hard core street ebonics that are equally hard to understand. I wonder if this technology will work with ebonics too?
You’re right about the Indians. I just wonder if altering an accent will do much. The problem I have with the Indians is they tend to clip words so all I hear from them is partial words and that makes dealing with them extremely difficult. Indeed, I prefer usually to use digital chat in dealing with them because it’s easier for each of us to read what the other has written than to understand what the other is saying over the phone.
The issue isn’t needing to sound any particular ethnicity. The issue is clarity of communication. You can sound like anything but, if there’s no understanding between the parties, only frustration will occur. They aren’t addressing the problem.
What is a “White voice”? Do they mean normal, standard American accent? If so, from where? The midwest? New York? Boston?
Changing the accent won’t change the words, or the order they are in, or if they make sense together. This device won’t correct a misplaced stressed syllable.
A better idea would be a biden to English translator. It would be quite a challenge. He speaks in disjointed sentences, with a constant flow of unrelated words. The task is to create a coherent sentence out of the words.
If biden says “Where should I start reading? Oh. The country backward moving has been has reduced the freedom you know the thing repeat the thing the thing rights no longer we assume we assumed the rights oh the rights the thing are not prot- longer protected any longer”
The job is to translate that into “In recent days, there has been reason to think this country is moving backward, that freedom has been reduced, that rights we assumed were protected are no longer.” The media seem to do a good job at that. Creating software that will do it will be a big challenge.
I bet $100 this company will rapidly become prominent in all sorts of software, for all kinds of uses. In loads of countries, even in many languages.
Them, or a nimble competitor.
:)
For real. Could even be via our phone.
It won’t matter because they can’t hear the difference between B and D so you have to spell everything 10 times and it is still a mess.
You’d snag me on that one.
It is a hearing problem not speaking.
but we know they’re all in India ,LOL
American accent with Asian syntax... nobody will ever tell
Emergency! Emergency! Everybody to get from street.
LOL You sir, and I, are called racists but the libtards are the ones that segregate Americans and try to turn us against each other. SOUND WHITE? Screw the liberals!
Allo? Thees ees Peggy? How may I help ewe?
Hmmm. . .I wonder if this would work for certain African Americans???
“Yo, I be Shalonda, and I is calling you about de problem you be habbing wif yo WalMart odor. . .”
would that come out the other side as,
“Good Morning! My name is Poindexter, and I was just returning your call about the mis-delivered groceries. We are so sorry for the inconvenience. . .”
” It’s all of your fault that they HAD to make this software because of your bigotry that you will only talk to White Americans.”
- the software developers probably

. : . : .
Then I resort to the phonetic alphabet - the real one.
Maybe REO Speedwagon or The Eagles.
I’d like to hear what happens when it makes call center workers’ voices sound black.
You mean Steve Stevenson & Bill Williams who call to tell me my computer was hacked aren’t White?
