Britain imported no fuels from Russia in June for the first time on record following the imposition of sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine, official data shows.

The figure published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) comes after the UK moved to sever all reliance on Moscow for its power needs in the face of Kremlin aggression by phasing out the use of its oil and gas.

Projected 18.6% inflation incoming.
Energy and utility bills going through the roof in the UK.
Food prices going through the roof in the UK.
Pound is pounding sand.
Ukrainian casualties are more than the entire UK military.

But yeah, the price for resisting Putin.

On the bright side:
UK literally wants to join in on the Ukraine-Russia hot war while encouraging the Ukrainians to fight to the last man.....

I’m just guessing here. Maybe: Russia exports fuel to Country Whatever. Country Whatever adds a markup, then exports the fuel to the UK. Presto! The UK can say that it’s no longer buying any fuel from Russia.

I’d like to ask some Britons how they believe the economy is going. Somehow I suspect they would not be as optimistic.

The UK is a big producer, along with Norway and Netherlands, in the North Sea.

Nothing to do with smart versus dumb; we are where we are because of the “account for every penny” strangleholds and political short-termism.

Politicians kept kicking tough, expensive decisions over new nuclear/ fracking / reopening coal mines into the long grass.

Heathrow expansion has bumbled along for decades. The money they’ve spent on public consultation and legal challenges to a single extra runway could’ve paid for THREE new runways.

David Cameron ended the government backed loans for putting solar panels up. 4 years ago I put enough on my roof to get free electricity for 8 months of the year; with the current cost of energy it’ll be running at a net annual profit by 2024.

Russia doesn’t have this bullshit - if they want something done they just crack on and if they gave to pay kickbacks or shoot the protesters then they will.
