Apparently (it was before my time) people were genuinely shocked with FDR’s death. Pictures of him from the Yalta Conference certainly look like he was on his last legs and when he addressed Congress for the last time he remained seated which had never happened before.

But I suppose one can excuse the press’s hesitation to point it out. We were still at war. One of the great coincidences of the time was how Hitler’s and FDR’s times in office are virtually identical. Hitler 1-30-33 to 4-30-45 and FDR 3-4-33 to 4-12-45.
