"Hey I'm under here Herbie..."
Make it more mainstream and tell kids its for “Adult use” only.
Guess what happens.
Everyone is against Medical MJ (me included), until you need it.
Daily marijuana use is now 11%? That’s frequent enough for MJ alone to cause serious cognitive damage in later life.
“Forty-three percent of the 5,000 young adults between 19 and 30 years old surveyed reported past-year marijuana use in 2021,”
Damn. The psych ward business is going to boom.
“Forty-three percent of the 5,000 young adults between 19 and 30 years old surveyed reported past-year marijuana use in 2021...”
Well, it’s mostly legal now. I imagine you would see similar stats if you asked 19-30 year olds if they drank alcohol in the last year.
To misquote a former President, don’t get all weed-weed up about it
OF COURSE it’s on the rise. It’s legal.
Especially vulnerable to permanent brain damage at that age.
Well that is what happens when you legalize something. It’s use increases. Substantially.
Now is that good for America?
Mental illness, anxiety, schizoid breaks and psychosis, and other negative behaviors are growing among young people in our nation.
There are many factors that contribute to this and marijuana use is one of them in my opinion. I don’t think many of the studies and assessments or even the life experience of older folks like me have taken into account how strong/potent the products are.
This is NOT the marijuana of the 70’s, 80’s or even the 90’s. It is FAR more potent today as are the delivery systems.
While many people seem unaffected by the new potency some are having mental problems. I tend to be libertarian on the subject, but I am growing more concerned with the negative impact (especially on developing brains in teens) and feel like our society should have another conversation on the subject. One idea might be to reduce the potency of the licensed products?
Tobacco companies know that getting above 20mg of nicotine in a cigarette can have serious health consequences (I think 12mg is about the average) - especially on cardiac health.
IF you extrapolate this idea to marijuana or a “joint” and it was comparable strength in the 70’s/80’s there are now marijuana products on the market that would be the equivalent of 80mg or even more. Its not an exact analogy but its probably not far off the mark. This potency affects the brain.........
Gee, who woulda thunk that legalizing pot would have this result? DUH!!
When is the law going to be passed that you can’t criticize marijuana.
Weed became legal here in IL and I smoked for a while but I stopped several months ago and haven’t smoked since. For me stopping was a personal decision, the thrill was gone, it’s no fun to smoke alone, lots of places require a drug test to get employed and I’d like to find a pt job at some point, I still believe it should be legal but it’s not for everyone and it’s not for me any more.
Someone remind me again what the LEGAL basis is for outlawing something that you voluntarily do which may harm you in doing so?
I’ll wait.
(and no,I don’t smoke pot)
safe and effective... 😁
