Turkey is not demanding Crimea for itself but that Russia honor the transfer that they made to Ukraine in 1954 and recognized with Ukrainian independence in 1991. The proper analogy would be if Russia can claim back Crimea which it gave to Ukraine then it could claim back Alaska.

"that Russia honor the transfer that they made to Ukraine in 1954"

ROTFLMAO. OMG. Should Cuba or Honduras weigh in on the creation of West Virginia? How about New Mexico Territory becoming the two separate states of NM and AZ? What the hell, over? Are you sober?

1. What the HELL does Turkey have to do with an internal transfer of territory within the USSR, made by a drunken Nikita K, in order to secure political support for his taking power of the Soviet Union after the death of Stalin? Really?

2. Russia purchased Crimea from Turkey 84 years BEFORE America purchased Alaska from Russia. (America also paid for the Louisiana Purchase and the Southwest, from Mexico and France.)

(We didn't bother to pay for Hawaii, we just out and out stole it at USMC rifle point. No pretense at all, just, "We want it, we're taking it, screw you Hawaiians."

The 2014 coup and the immediate Uke attack and ethnic cleansing on the Donbass changed everything. Crimea and the Donbass are never going back.

And soon, it’ll get chilly in the EU, fall is coming.

IIRC, that was not done by the present Russian Federation. Both actions took place under the USSR, the last ushered in during the chaos following the 2nd Russian Revolution. Geographic congruence in these ancient lands does not equal present-day political formations.

No doubt Erdogan thinks he could easily wrest Crimea back from a rump Ukraine after this war ends. Wasn’t there also significant Greek presence there, as well? I don’t recall.

Fun fact: Zelensky wants to remove Catherine the Great’s statue in Crimea and replace it w/one of a (gay?) porn star. If American grudges going back to the 1860s is strong, just imagine the grudges held across Europe (including the UK) after tens of decades of war/revolution and border change.

Another appellation for The Ukraine is “The Bloodlands”.
