In fact there is a major hurricane shown on the charts for Sat Sep 3rd west of Florida making a landfall near Mobile Bay. Hard to say whether it would ever be a cat-5 as shown but certainly a cat-3 or possibly cat-4 in the Gulf. It comes from Jamaica across central Cuba and the Keys around Friday 2nd and moves far enough west of Florida (peninsula) that impacts would be moderate rather than severe there. Worst hit appears to be around Pensacola or Panama City, but of course at 10-11 days off, rather speculative at this point.
Worth keeping a close eye on this all around the Gulf and Florida.
Part of the problem of how this thread started was that the “GPS” model should have read “GFS” model, the major U.S. weather model, it has nothing to do with GPS.
Can you link me to that chart? I just want to see for myself. Thanks.
From NHC:
“2. East of The Windward Islands:
A large area of disturbed weather has formed centered several
hundred miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands. While this
system is currently disorganized, environmental conditions could
become more conducive for development in a few days when the system
approaches the Windward Islands or southeastern Caribbean Sea.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.”
