In 2020, the current attorney general, Alejando Gertz Manero, accused Murillo Karam of “orchestrating a massive media trick” and leading a “generalized cover-up” in the case.
The arrest came a day after a commission investigating the disappearances said the army bore at least partial responsibility. It said that a soldier had infiltrated the student group involved and that the army didn’t stop the abductions even though it knew what was happening.

A lot of crap has happened in Mexico over the years, that Americans have absolutely no idea about.
The awesome part... They’re still investigating this tragic and very publicized murder of several dozen children. What a wonderful place Mexico is.
Or just unfortunate Mexican’s “recruited” to replace cartel minions and sex slaves.
The deceased were not children. They weren’t even actual students.
In mexican it is pronounced cuarenta y tres
Mexico...
“How bad is it?”
It’s so bad that people will leave their lives behind
and sneak into the USA to mow grass and roof houses
for the rest of their lives...
And yet Mex has plenty of natural resources, harbors, coastline, farmland, potential able bodied workers, everything the US has.
But they also have an acceptance of corruption and thieving similar to the US Ghetto’s, but on a national scale.
Plus VERY restrictive firearms laws limiting the local ability to mount self defense.
This has enabled an acceptance and even admiration for the Cartels.
At some point Mex needs to choose, failed Narco State or success for the general population rather than just the Mex City elite and Cartels.
Instead of being the corrupt regimes safety valve we should be forcing the citizens of Mex to deal with their issues.
It may be time for them to have a real revolution, rather than romanticizing “Kicking out” the French who really just abandoned the money losing proposition.
“The students periodically commandeered buses for transportation.”
To get to the library? Home? A fútbol game? A political rally? A communist insurrection?
The word “commandeered”, to me, means taking something without permission or payment. Not a nice way to do something. Were these innocent lambs or troublemakers?
That was my main point.
Not sure how it happens with no access to modern arms unless they take them from the Cartels.
They do tend to be pretty clever at red-neck engineering, so maybe they will have to begin with black-powder arms and IED’s.
I wonder if Joe Bidet’ would send US troops to defend the corrupt Gov/Cartels alliance they currently have?
In the Tribal Areas of Pakistan, making copies of automatic weapons was a cottage industry. They helped arm the Mujahideen in Afghanistan. I’m sure Mexico can start higher up on the food chain than Kentucky Rifles. :)
They just need to do it.
“Military Caliber” firearms are illegal for Mex civilians to possess.
But black powder arms are not covered by the laws, so are legal.
That avoids the resistance being arrested before they can get a good start.
To go against the cartels I am thinking of harmonica guns, BP Cannon, and similar.
But sniping Cartel members with a “Kentucky rifle” on a random basis then scooting away, repeatedly, might take some of the romance out of Cartel membership.
It is due to their acceptance of socialism through Poncho Via. That’s what socialism is. Corruption
