If a person who was not a government employee did this, it would be a very serious crime. There would be multiple charges, which would include suppression of evidence, interference with an investigation, violation of the civil rights of the person accused, violation of the Federal Records Act, destruction of government property, and many more. All federal crimes, all prosecuted by the DOJ.

Of course, that's if the person who did this was not a government employee.

Hillary Clinton and her staffers that destroyed cellphones and other electronics did exactly that. Did they not? The Clinton “investigation” came about after she was out of government service did it not?
