Throughout all of July, Europe’s six largest countries offered Ukraine no new bilateral military commitments, according to new data — the first month that had happened since Russia invaded in February.
The revelation is a sign that despite historic shifts in European defense policy — which have seen once reluctant countries like France and Germany ship arms to Ukraine — military aid to Ukraine may be waning just as Kyiv launches a crucial counteroffensive.

“Despite the war entering a critical phase, new aid initiatives have dried up,” he said.

The ship is sinking and the rats in bailing.....
That could be the case.
Europe’s “powers”?
What powers?
ha. true.
Johnson, Draghi, Bulgaria, Estonia. Eurozone govt's are dropping like flies. Italy is next, with the Center-Right parties on target for a crushing victory over the leftards in late September.
Yeah I have not seen evidence of any serious counteroffensive either.
Not sure where those armored vehicles are.
You might be right.
A winter energy crisis could wake up those people in power fast.
Short of NATO mobilization (are they that crazy?), how this ends is not in serious doubt. That end will have monumental repercussions.
European countries are much closer to Moscow than Washington DC, and they are looking at a cold dark winter.
Just as the Soviet Union did, NATO will self-disintegrate as the Ukrainian regime does. The organization made the mistake of drawing a line in the sand it is not prepared to defend except by proxy. When the contest is proxy-versus-proxy that is how the game is played, but when the contest is proxy-versus-nation state ON THE BORDER of that nation state, it’s not a game. Didn’t someone explain this to those idiots?
Members will simply walk away and deal with Russia bi-laterally.
The EU will soon die of attrition as well.
Who among us does not want a much different world? Well this is what the trip there looks like. For better or worse is anyone’s guess, but it will be different than what we’ve known.
Basically, other than Poland, the US is now the only country funneling military and monetary support to Ukraine despite the fact no one has yet to define a vital national security interest we have in this war. Europe, who does have a vital national security interest in this regional threat, has left it to us. We should require slacker European NATO nations to reimburse the US monetarily for the military and monetary aid we are sending Ukraine...but, of course, Biden won’t.
We have been providing defense for Europe for 70+ years.
It’s costly to keep military equipment in storage, so why do it, especially when you think something like: “I never thought there will never be another war” - as the German Defense Minister said at the start of the Ukraine war.
Europe is spent, and they have virtually no way military-industry base to get back into production, so they’re spent for another 2 years or so. US is in a similar situation due to a small military-industry base and the need for materials from around the world, especially RUSSIA, for Titanium.
Eventually the West will figure out other ways to make stuff, or find resources in their shrinking pool of friendly countries, but it will take time.
They don’t count the UK as European, but they (the UK) did pledge more in July (to train 10,000 troops). Nordic countries have since committed to contributing to that effort, and have conducted a donor conference in August where they pledged additional support.
I agree. I think this is going to end in one result barring some NATO direct intervention.
NATO miscalculated here. No doubt in my mind about that.
I agree. The only other nation I would add to that is the UK. So, USA and UK and Poland. That seems about it right now.
Yeah. Russia seems to have done a good job at getting the NATO nations to deplete their military resources.
That’s right. The UK is not counted in the article, but they are still giving aid.
Britain will send score of artillery guns and more than 1,600 anti-tank weapons to Ukraine

The rest of Europe is still on board to support Ukraine - they sent economic aid during July, and continued to deliver previously announced military aid.
