Prius runs on gas most of the time and to keep the batteries up.
Batteries provide brief surge power, up hill for example.
Thieve target them because they are Easier to remove than most other cars.

Why would it be easy to remove from a Prius? Those things sit 3 inches off the pavement for aerodynamics.
It’s the trucks that are easy to get under to cut them off.
