ow would this work for federal crimes committed across more than one state jurisdiction? I’m not knowledgeable about law enforcement in general, so there’s a lot I don’t know about here.

You are correct. I thought about this after posting but had to mow some grass.

Crimes on aircraft, interstate crimes, etc., would require the US Marshals.

But in some manner congress should define clearly the US Marshals responsibilities. I have read of several recent cases where the marshalls “assisted local law enforcement”, but the stories made no references as to why,

For instance a truck load of drugs that has traveled from Mexico to NY city is clearly an interstate problem. Yet today a sheriff or a state trooper will arrest and prosecute if they find the truck.

My own opinion is that local law enforcement should avoid assistance from any federal organization unless the situation is desperate.

So you are correct. we need the marshals. The question is to how to prevent them from becoming the FBI or the ATF.

I suspect the only option is to make the head of the US Marshals an elected official. That gives the voters a chance to remove an incompetent or corrupt head of the department.

He is a Libertarian and First Amendment books author:

All are good reads.

Silverglate and Powell convincingly demonstrate that federal prosecutorial abuses are not anomalous but routine, which makes them a pressing concern for every American. None of us are safe when law enforcement officials, imbued with extraordinary power, are free to lie, entrap people, extort pleas, and suppress exculpatory evidence, without fear of being held to account. Read this book and take its warnings seriously.

My constitutional amendment solution was a dig at those, not you, that forget about the 10th amendment. I should have followed that with a SARC tag.

How would the new agency be prevented from arriving at exactly the same state the FBI is in now?

By greatly reducing the scope of their 'powers'. The FBI should be restricted to a very, very small number of very carefully written laws.

“How would the new agency be prevented from arriving at exactly the same state the FBI is in now?”

The constant threat of a raid by the 2nd Marine Division. The deep state, especially their left wing feminist wives, are terrified of Marines.

Gohmert needs to be campaigning for his former opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton. Had Gohmert not entered that March 1 race, Paxton would have been nominated in the regular primary and not need to have faced a May runoff with George P. Bush.

Polls show Paxton is vulnerable on Nov. 8 though the name of his Democrat opponent is not well-known.
