Well, in the early 70's, the Democrats were George McGovern and a bunch of Great Society liberals, along with a smattering of anti-Communists. They gave us massive social programs, Roe v. Wade, Affirmative Action, and Jimmy Carter.

That's not my definition of conservative. My definition of conservatism is the Republican who arose in the 70's to lead the charge against those people, and who took the White House back in 1980.
