We failed in 1988 to universally condemn violence as a solution to free speech disagreement. Even Reagan after some time went by in the Satanic Verses event, went on to question if there should be limits on freedom of OPINION. The enemies of free speech love to play this game in stressing SPEECH over OPINION, where all who are honest admit this what is meant by “speech”. Yeah you can yell fire in a crowded theatre. But then you are now open to state punishments for disturbing the peace. THAT is not a limit on free speech unless we must now dive into the silly ritual of spitting hairs on what is speech. Speech is used to commit fraud, but the real crime isn’t the technical use of our vocal chords, but the dishonest attempt to con money from victims with a series of lies.
