That used to be the cardinal sin, but no more. Today, mere politics has been replaced by religious fanaticism, and the cardinal sin is to decry the party creed. Not vote against a policy.

Even without corruption, you're not far from the truth.
The IRS will be loaded for bear against every small business in America: 18 wheeler owner/operators, barbers and beauticians, plumbers, masons, electricians, dentists, gym owners, car washes, etc. A class of people who vote 80%-90% Republican.
Most politicians are nothing but bought off or worse.
A Corporatocracy has been in place for decades and been getting worse as time goes on. It’s getting close to becoming global with the Great Reset. All the leaders of big corporations(and asset management firms) are on board with it.
They realize money is a construct, numbers on a screen, attached to payment methods. They have no need for a USD either. They only need to be able to obtain whatever luxuries they desire.
