No, I don't think preserving artifacts installed by your conqueror that eventually left your country is important. If white man left North America, would the Native Americans retain statues of Winfield Scott or Andrew Jackson? I suspect they wouldn't.
You leave these things in the history books and you would keep one eye on the lookout for them to return.
