From a distance, Orania looks like any other small town in rural South Africa.
But once inside, the visitor is struck by an obvious difference.
Everyone here is white.
And in a country where menial work in wealthy areas is typically done by black employees, white people here mop supermarket floors, wield leaf blowers and harvest the nuts on pecan farms.
Orania residents are 100-percent white in a country that has declared an end to racial segregation.
The history of this incongruity dates back to 1991, when apartheid was in its death throes.
White Afrikaners -- descendants of 17th-century Dutch colonisers -- bought up 8,000 hectares (19,000 acres) of land on the banks of the Orange River, in the sparsely populated Karoo region.
Using an autonomous status under the post-apartheid constitution, they created a privately-owned town which has so far admitted only white inhabitants.
Today, Orania's population has surged almost 10-fold, reaching around 2,500, and the economy is booming.
Old Cape Dutch-style houses hobnob with modern townhouses, separated by low or no walls, but kempt gardens. Children ride bicycles and adults jog freely on the clean streets.
But Orania says it has broken with colonial- and apartheid-era labour practices.
"We do our own work, from gardening to cleaning our houses, our own toilets to construction, everything," said spokesman Joost Strydom.
Orania, he said, is the only community that shuns "the system of cheap black labour."
Prospective residents are vetted and must have no criminal record.

The reason this works is that the whites bribe black officials to keep “hands off” to the point that the black officials get super-rich.
The problem with that strategy is that at some point another gang of blacks might take over the government and decide that killing whitey is more fun than stealing from whitey.

Interesting idea. An entire town where you have to be “vetted” to be allowed to move there.
I wonder if that idea could take root in the US.
Given the rampant crime and corruption and racial problems in South Africa, I can understand why they wanted to go live in their own separate town.

In the US “diversity” seems to have morphed into anti-white and anti-asian hate—so it is not working real well here either.
Orania is proud of their racism.

More proof that separation is the answer to the racial dystopia we’re living.
calling them racist is a cheapshot for sure. They’ve pointed out that instead of exploiting minority labor, they are scrubbing their own toilets and doing their own menial tasks and it is working... it would be a good lesson for white Americans exploiting cheap illegal labor.
Sounds like a good idea for the U.S. constitution.

Could this idea be replicated in the US?
There’s something like this going on with gated communities in the US. But I don’t think they do background checks to screen people out. I think money talks with buyers into gated communities.
But I can see the appeal of living in a separate safer saner place, where an entire town is populated by people who share your values, and are not criminals or other low life types.
I hope they’re well armed and trained. Too much success means the greedy government types and their “militia” will come after them for two reasons: 1. assets & 2. their success makes the rest of the diversity and inclusion crap look bad.
From what I know of current conditions in South Africa, these are not towns but armed camps.
Whites are routinely attacked and murdered. Property stolen. Can’t blame them.
Wow. Why is that I wonder!?
