There was definitely more than $500 damage. A whole house and everything in it was destroyed.

It gets better than that though.
It is a bare minimum of 1 year to get building permits and will cost them at least $100K just to get thru the paperwork. Then another 3 years minimum for the repairs and the mandatory upgrades to come up to current codes will cost them MILLIONS!!!
This is assuming they even get a building permit, I doubt they will get through the process
