Tracking aircraft using relatively cheap inexpensive equipment is easy.
I’ve been collecting aircraft information for almost 3 years now.
I use a Raspberry PI computer and created an account with FlightAware, which gives you the account if you send them information you collect.
They also sell a cheap antenna and SDR decoder.
Nearly every plane flying puts data packets containing things like plane type, air speed, heading, altitude, and many other things.
They all broadcast on the same frequency, using something called ADS-B, you basically receive those data packet via the SDR, send them to FlightAware and you can look at all the planes you are monitoring on your own personal map.
It’s easy to setup and is quite interesting if you are into electronic gadgets.
Flight aware info if free via airport
That’s interesting. Can you use something other than Raspberry PI to collect data, like a tablet or PC?
