A former Colorado police officer who did not stop another officer from being rough with a 73-year-old woman with dementia was sentenced Friday to 45 days in jail and three years of probation.

Daria Jalali earlier pleaded guilty in the arrest of Karen Garner in Loveland, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Denver, in 2020. She had faced up to 60 days in jail for failing to intervene, a crime created by lawmakers as part of a police reform bill passed during protests over racial injustice and police brutality in 2020.

I initially had some sympathy for the female cop. When your partner goes rogue, you might freeze up a bit. Sort of a “What do I do now?” moment.

Then I saw the video of her at the police station, laughing it up as she watched body cam footage of Garner getting her shoulder dislocated and her arm broken. I am much less sympathetic now.

45 days? That’s all? Don’t anyone here pretend to tell me that you’d only get 45 days for doing the same thing to a cop.

The 14th amendment is meaningless.

I view the family of the dementia patient, more than the cops. Why was a woman with dementia out on her own, and stealing merchandise from a store? The woman didnt cooperate with her arrest and so the cops were justified to arrest her. Not to brake her arm though. Still, I blame her family for not watching this vulnerable woman.

The cop who actually injured Garner got five years in prison. This lady cop got 45 days for not trying to stop him.

Both of them really enjoyed watching video of Garner being injured. They laughed and they made jokes. Two psychopaths, for sure. You can see them watching the video at the 0:43 mark.

Why was a woman with dementia out on her own,

Because that is what people with dementia occasionally do.

Nah, I blame the Cops, they claim they are the professionals and accept pay and bennies for being Professional.

Screw 'em both, maybe the Cops' families will supervise 'em better in the future.

What’s sad is the 45 days may not even end up being 45 hours. This cop’s buddies at the jail will cut her loose almost as soon as they process her.

Patients get loose sometimes. I lost my wife in a store one day and found her outside.
The woman in the post may not have known she had to pay for the things she liked. The cops messed up period. They should have recognized the woman’s issue. It’s not hard.
Loveland’s going to see a major lawsuit.

The cop that actually broke this poor woman’s arm got five years. The 45 days was for the female cop who did not participate in the abuse, but did not stop it.

I believe she also got booted from the force.

You ever try and take care of an elder with dementia?

Far harder than a three year old.

Turn your back and they will be out and gone. Just remember, you have to sleep sometime..and they will wake up at the middle of the night and then all hell breaks loose.

IMO the main culprits in this whole thing are the family members who failed to guarantee that she was always supervised...always guided...always protected by someone. Without that guidance it was only a matter of time before something something catastrophic...something lethal...happened to her.

I know...my dearly departed Dad lived with me for the last 10 years of his life. He was never alone...and it was only near the end when he got worse than this woman was.My brother, sister and I made sure he was always safe.

This can also be found on some of the Youtuber’s home site that do A1 audits. I do believe they got police videos through FOIA request. It always go back to TRAINING! Just a shocking display of incompetence & elder abuse.

Justice was served, albeit quite slowly. The fact that she is already resigned from the police force may have put this on a lower priority than if otherwise.

Motion alarms helped a LOT.
Sleep? None worth a damn for three years.

Yeah, aside from that minor detail the cops were the good guys.

Oh, and making her sit for an hour in handcuffs on a wooden bench while they yukked it up. Loveland’s finest.

FAR too many families are refusing to admit they have family members who are not capable on their own.
