The increase in the number of IRS agents and proposed additional audits is a symptom, not the problem. There is a really dramatic increase in audits for returns with a taxable income of between $1 and $25,000, because that is where much fraud is happening, especially with Earned Income Credits and Child Credits. If / when those audits start bringing in results, it will affect much of the base the dems focus on.

Another focus will be K-2's and K-3's. Those got rolled out last tax season, but the blowback was so loud from the affected taxpayers that the IRS delayed compliance until next tax season. The amount of detail and time required to complete the forms is huge, and this is another area where the IRS thinks there is a target-rich environment.
