So...I suspect the Pelosi trip was a ruse to get the ships in place with the seemingly reasonable excuse to protect the very important Speaker of the House.
I don’t blame China one bit for their reaction. Pelosi does a ballroom dance with the Taiwan Pres. on the Island then she cuts and runs. Same tiptoeing around that was done in Ukraine. Now she’s doing likewise at the DMZ.

Ret. General Jack Keene said the US made two mistakes.
1) They should have never announced Pelosi was going until she was already on the ground. This allowed China time to mount a protest.
2) The Biden’s administration announcement that the military did not want her to go sent a message to China that we were divided. Which provided a further incentive for China to make a big deal out of this.
Like deciding to kill Zarahiri again, Pelosi going is all just part of a silly propaganda PR campaign to try to turn around Biden’s failure to do anything with his stolen office.
All preplanned, all BS, all to make Biden “Captain at the helm”. Don’t believe a word of it.
Both sides get to do some sabre-rattling. Their leaders look good. On the other hand, if that carrier tries to navigate the strait, it might be too good a target for the chicoms pass up.

These mentally damaged children are playing with nuclear dynamite. The contradictions in the Taiwan political settlement have been wisely left alone by previous Presidents. But these ass-clowns have been dementedly picking at the scab, desperate to start a war in time for the midterms.
They think a conflict with China will be easy to win. Conventionally, they are right. A distant blockade of China is currently unanswerable with conventional means.
The only military way for the Chinese to break the Malacca Dilemna is by directly threatening US naval elements at sea with long-range tactical nukes.
So of course that is what would happen. There are a lot of rungs on the ladder of nuclear escalation , and the lower ones are perfectly survivable. Especially if you have a lot of (what you regard as) excess population, and plenty of Ghost Cities.

But also - of course - Pelosi flew to Taiwan in a military plane. Help me out if I'm wrong about this, as a foreigner - but this would seem to give her flight to Taiwan even more the character of an offical act of state, sanctioned by the Commander In Chief.
