This is too weird even for Florida man. Who drove him to the hospital? Did he catch an Uber? What was the condition of the upholstery in the car?
I would guess he was in the bed of a pickup truck. That is the only thing that seems feasible and it would have kept the fire going ( or even reignited it if he was still smoldering.)
