Also headquarters for a shady cartel made up of southwestern Asia types named Greater Austin Merchants Cooperative Association aka GAMA. Though it may have "Austin" in the name, the shots are called in Houston. The various members buy in bulk from places like Costco, Sam's Club and divvy it up for store inventory between the membership to avoid purchase through official distributors. They even have a fund to help members pay off the fines when busted. These are the guys you see in times of an emergency situation, like back in 2020, showing up at stores with wads of cash buying up the entire meat counter or an entire aisle of cereal or whatnot, making sure THEIR stores will stay open no matter what and betting that they'll be the only game in town to buy from if worse comes to worst. Yeah, they're that slimy - I've seen it with my own eyes. Consumers will continue to compete with these dirtbags for supply as the economy circles the drain. Their stores can typically be identified by a GAMA doormat, decal on the door or windows of the store. If you ever see one of those, turn right around and leave - your money would directly go to supporting criminals.
