I remember when Watts first proposed this. He had pictures of weather stations next to AC compressors, trash burn barrels, and one just off the end of the runway subject to regular jet wash. When he started to organize volunteers to go to every site in the county to verify it was in the recorded location and away from buildings and pavement, NOAA took the location list off the web “for privacy purposes”. Nope, you can’t go double check the government’s work, peasants).

In the late 90s we had one cold winter and I told my daughter they must be measuring temps by the exhaust of an idling fire truck because my outdoor thermometer was 4 degrees colder.. every morning. Of course after the weather channel faked hurricane coverage who knows.

I'm glad someone has performed an actual study on this problem. Not that I expect to see it reported elsewhere. The West's 'leaders' are dead set in destroying our economy by pushing this Global Warming hysteria. It is just their tool to increase their power and turn the people into their chattel.
The station in our small town is at the airport near the fuel tank in the middle of a whole lot of hot concrete.

It was published in the news in the 1980s that the city of Phoenix was relocating its official thermometer so that it could boast that it (not Tucson) was the hottest city in Arizona.
Whether this was part of this same cabal I couldn’t tell you but it stands to reason that, since then, a whole host of “Watermelons” have applied that same principle to their quest to convince us that Man-Made Global Warming is real.
This occurred in the 1989-1991 time frame.

For nearly five decades the official weather reporting station in my small hometown in South Dakota was within twenty feet of a large west facing brick wall of the old city auditorium. The locals, who had there own thermometers, frequently complained that the official high temperatures reported in the weekly newspaper, were always degrees hotter than what they noted on there thermometers. When the gentleman who operated the weather station passed away, the official weather station was moved to a new location in the middle of a large back yard away from any buildings and the reported high temperatures immediately began to more or less agree with what the locals were noting.
