My working theory is that she’s not allowed to quit. The moment she quits, the Chinese will reveal every action of compromise and criminality.

Of course with the chinkonese threats flying around it stands to reason they just might turn off the transponder like most military do.
All bets are off as to having an operational transponder after leaving the coast... however, given the range, a switch of aircraft will be necessary. And, its transponder would likely be shut off west of Hawaii.
Of course, the Chinese can ‘see’ the aircraft without the transponder - they’ll expect it to be shut off, and go with their primary radar.
